Reflection 3

As mentioned in observation one, I think that the management style of the teacher which I have been observing is very similar to the management style that I will implement in my own classroom. Like the teacher I have been observing, there are certain aspects of Whole Brain Teaching that I will use in my classroom. I know that I will use the rules, the scoreboard, and the “Class! Yes!” components. However, I think that I will be like the teacher I observed and only use the other components such as “Teach! Ok!” sparingly. Another way in which the teacher’s management style resembles what I want in my own classroom is that she also has a system in place which holds the students individually accountable. I think that this is important because some students do not respond to a group contingency like the Scoreboard. Also, some behaviors are more serious and need greater consequences than a tally and a “Mighty Groan”.

I think that understanding the management style of my cooperating teacher is very beneficial. I am going to be student teaching with her, so it is important that I am able to implement the same classroom management strategies and discipline procedures as her. I also think that it is helpful that I agree with the system of management that she has chosen. By seeing the management style that I want in my own classroom in a real classroom situation, I am able to see what aspects work and which ones I would want to change. I think that management is going to be my biggest struggle as a teacher, so being able to experience the management style that I would implement before I get my own classroom will be really helpful.
